Erin Roll’s career as an editor began when she was about six years old. She would peer over her father’s shoulder as he worked at the computer, point to the screen, and say, “You spelled that word wrong!” (In the years that followed, Microsoft and other IT companies added automatic spell check to their word processing software, thereby eliminating the need for users to have an exceptionally well-read child standing nearby.)
To date, Erin’s editing clients include Penguin Random House, Aptara, Quarto, and the Editorial Freelancers Association.
Before becoming a freelance writer and editor, Erin started her professional career at North Jersey Media Group, now part of Gannett/USA Today Network. She then became one of the founding staff members of Montclair Local: an award-winning independent weekly newspaper serving the town of Montclair, NJ. Erin has won a total of twenty-six awards from the New Jersey Press Association and the New Jersey Society of Professional Journalists.
Erin holds a BA in English, cum laude, from Christopher Newport University in Newport News, Va., and an MA in English from Montclair State University. She likes hiking, kayaking, reading (of course), video games, and playing the guitar and mandolin.
